A REFLECTION -- Heaven, Hell & The Senator

2

I copy this from  Robert Colquhuon blog Love Undefiled. This is something interesting that maybe can make us think for a while. Reflects while you read it through. Happy reading!

While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator..

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do
is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down,
down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is
having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator
rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven.."

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell..

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were campaigning, Today, you voted.."

Day

2

If we are too busy, if we are carried away every day by our projects, our uncertainty, our craving, how can we have the time to stop and look deeply into the situation-our own situation, the situation of our beloved one, the situation of our family and of our community, and the situation of our nation and of the other nations?

JOY - My Little Hairy Friend

1

I was away for about three days. Doing outstation works. The great things was, i get my new little friend from logging camp this weekend. While we were visiting sites, we stop by at one of the logging camp. While we having coffee at the canteen, there were three kittens attracts us. Asking the ladies in the canteen and they asks us to take all the kittens back with us. They already have too many cats at the camp. There are more than 30 cats. They always give away kittens to villagers nearby or other visitors that stop by their camp. So, this time is our time. We took all three of them. I took one with me and another two was taken by my other friend.

I called her JOY. Why? Because she will brings joy to my life since i always stayed alone at home every weekend. My housemates went back home very weekend. Besides, Christmas is coming and Joy is my precious Christmas gift to myself. Yay! Okay, here is some of Joy faces on the first day she enter her new home (my home and will become our home).

I WANT TO BE A.... -- Keep Tagging Your Friends --

13

Blogwalking and visit Devreny post on this I WANT TO BE A... Feels like to ramble on the same topic as she did. Just to refresh my memories on my ambition before i became who i am now and job that i am doing right now. To start this i would like to TAG a few of my friends to write the same posts because i feel its good to share bah kan. (^__^)... Here is my buddies lists, seven in a row:
*No rules to be follow, just write anyway you wanted it to be. Just tag any of your friends if you feels like to keep this game going. (^__*) ... Let's start!

When i was still a little child, i want to become a DOCTOR. Every time my primary teacher asks me what is my ambition, i will proudly said that i want to become a doctor. Why? Because i want to treat my parents. They are old and always sick, so i want to become a doctor and can help them, can cure them and make sure they are healthy.

The ambitions keep on going until my secondary school and when i get my flying colours result in my PMR i am stick with my ambition. Only a slight specific because i want to become a SURGEON. Still the same field though. Medical.

Things change after i get my SPM results. A little bit frustrated because i only got C6 for my Biology. So, i know that there will be no chance for me to enter uni and pursue my ambition. But, actually i still have another chance when i enter Pre-u (matriculation) and i  took Life Science course at college. But, then my results is not so good-lah. Only manage to enter Uni and took Conservation Biology  course. No more DOCTOR for me. The ambition ends there.

After took Conservation Biology course, my next dream is to become a well-known CONSERVATIONIST. It was because i inspired by the initiatives that has been done by quite number of amazing people. I just feel like i want to contribute as much as i can to do more conservation work in Malaysia especially in Sabah & Sarawak. However, the dreams paused/stopped for a few years because i failed to get any job in this field. For three years i am doing something else, insurance, clerical, teachings all sort of jobs that i don't like to do. Doing it just for the sake of making money for a living.

The door for my dream to become a CONSERVATIONIST is open again when i get a chance to work with one of my favourite (admire his work so much since my uni) Conservationist, Mr. Rob. Having a great time and experiences while i am working with him for three years. The great years as a Conservationist. However, when he quit from the company, i am lost for a while with the new head. The situation change and the most missing part is that, no more motivation and urge to work with the heart of a conservationist that i collect while i am working with Mr. Rob. So i decided to leave and find something else and move to another adventure in life. I will not saying that this job as CONSERVATIONIST is end here because it will keep on continues because it is related with the current job that i am doing. The only thing that change is that, i don't want to become a well-known/famous conservationist anymore. Just ordinary person but the work that i am doing giving impacts to the people/communities. That is my wish for now.

It's about now then...Hmmm... Now, i am working for the people. For the local communities living aside forests. People that depends so much with land and forests. Making living as a farmers, planting paddy, rubber tapper and collecting forests products. My views about life also grow as my spirituality also grow. The most important things that i need to do for the time that left for me on this earth is to make sure i serve His people with the strength and wisdom that He gave me. To help rural people by develop their skills and capacity building, helping them to develop any other source for uplift their socio-economic. It is important to teach them how to fish rather than giving them fish and leave them alone. This world is now a challenging world. The riches and powerful keep on overpowered and make used of 'orang kampung' for their own good. Their dependents on lands and forests makes me feel that they need to look after their forests and lands so that they still can have it for their next2 generation. Sustainability and proper management by their own people to their own lands and forests is the key but they don't have skills and enough knowledge to do it by themselves alone. So, that is my call now. To work together with them and improve their skills and knowledge together.

Okay, that's all i can share about my ambitions and what happen next in my life? I am not sure. I only knows that, i am doing what is the best to serve God. Anywhere and what He want me to do, is what i am doing now.

How about you my dear friends? We have different perspectives in this life. Sharing is Caring! Caring is Loving! So, share some of your thoughts and feel free to leave comments too. Good day!

Little Rose

T.H.A.N.K. Y.O.U.

2

Read status one of my friend in FB. It says:
T E R I M A K A S I H......two simple words, but why can't certain people say it to others?

This makes me think of writing something about it. These two words means a lot to some people and some may not. It depends on who says it and to whom it is told. From my own perspective, it is the greatest things to do to say "THANK YOU" to a person whether they help us with something or any occasion where we get something from anyone that do something kind to us. THANK YOU means that i appreciate a person that doing something good to me. To make them feel good about it too.

I remember back in Nov 2008, when i attend Fr. Terry Burke talks in St. Joseph Cathedral, Kuching. He share with us about saying or expressing appreciation to a person no matter they are doing only a small things to us. He said it is good for us to say Thank You to waiter or waitress at coffee shop when they give us our drinks and food. Saying Thank You may sound simple and small things and some people ignore about it but it shows our appreciation to a person. It is not difficult to say it right? Only two words.

Blessed Morning

0

Photo taken at Muaya Waterfall, Sipitang

Whatever you give away today,
or think or say or do
will multiply about tenfold
and then return to you.

It may not come immediately,
nor from the obvious source
but the law applies unfailingly,
through some invisible force.

Whatever you feel about another,
be it love or hate or passion
will surely bounce right back to you
in some clear (or secret) fashion

If you speak about some person,
a word of praise or two,
soon, tens of other people
will speak kind words of you.

Our thoughts are broadcasts of the soul,
not secrets of the brain.
Kind ones bring us happiness;
petty ones, untold pain.

Giving works as surely
as reflections in a mirror.
If hate you send, hate you'll get back,
but loving brings love nearer.

Remember,as you start this day
and duty crowds your mind,
that kindness comes so quickly back
to those who first are kind.

Let that thought and this one
direct us through each day.
The only things we ever keep
are the things we give away.

All Soul's Day

0

Article adapted from uCatholic. Love to share it with my dear brothers and sisters in Christ here. Have a blessed day today. God bless!!

All Souls Day follows All Saints Day, and commemorates the faithful departed, those who die in God’s faith and friendship. However, Catholics believe that not all those who die in God’s grace are immediately ready for the Beatific vision, i.e. the reality and goodness of God and heaven, so they must be purified of “lesser faults,” and the temporal effects of sin. The Catholic Church calls this purification of the elect, “purgatory.”

The Catholic teaching on Purgatory essentially requires belief in two realities:
1. that there will be a purification of believers prior to entering heaven and
2. that the prayers and masses of the faithful in some way benefit those in the state of purification.

As to the duration, place, and exact nature of this purification, the Church has no official dogma, although Saint Augustine and others used fire as a way to explain the nature of the purification. Many faithful Catholics, including Pope Benedict XVI, grant that Purgatory may be an existential state as opposed to a temporal place. In other words, Purgatory may be something we experience instantaneously, because it is outside of the confines of created time and space. The official dogma of Purgatory is hardly offensive, even if the popular understanding of it has led to confusion. As a more everyday explanation, many liken Purgatory to a place to “clean up” oneself before going into the presence of Almighty God.

All Souls is the day to remember, pray for, and offer requiem masses up for these faithful departed in the state of purification. Typically Christians will take this day to offer prayers up on behalf of their departed relatives and friends. Others may remember influential individuals that they never knew personally, such as presidents, musicians, etc. This may be done in the form of the Office of the Dead (Defunctorum officium), i.e. a prayer service offered in memory of departed loved ones. Often this office is prayed on the anniversary (or eve) of the death of a loved one, or on All Souls’ Day.

Christians have been praying for their departed brothers and sisters since the earliest days of Christianity. Early liturgies and inscriptions on catacomb walls attest to the ancientness of prayers for the dead, even if the Church needed more time to develop a substantial theology behind the practice. Praying for the dead is actually borrowed from Judaism, as indicated in 2 Maccabees 12:41-42.

In the New Testament, St Paul prays for mercy for his departed friend Onesiphorus (2 Timothy 1:18). Early Christian writers Tertullian and St. Cyprian testify to the regular practice of praying for the souls of the departed. Tertullian justified the practice based on custom and Tradition, and not on explicit scriptural teaching. This demonstrates that Christians believed that their prayers could somehow have a positive effect on the souls of departed believers. Closely connected to the ancient practice of praying for the dead is the belief in an explicit state called purgatory. The New Testament hints at a purification of believers after death. For example, Saint Paul speaks of being saved, “but only as through fire” (1 Corinthians 3:15). Over time, many Church Fathers, including St. Augustine, e.g. in Enchiridion of Faith, Hope, and Love and City of God, further developed the concept of a purgation of sins through fire after death.

In the early days, departed Christians’ names were placed on diptychs. In the sixth century, Benedictine communities held commemorations for the departed on the feast of Pentecost. All Souls’ Day became a universal festival largely on account of the influence of Odilo of Cluny in AD 998, when he commanded its annual celebration in the Benedictine houses of his congregation. This soon spread to the Carthusian congregations as well. The day was celebrated on various days, including October 15th in 12th century Milan. Today all Western Catholics celebrate All Souls’ Day on November 2.

Thinks Of Other People's Interests Instead

0

"Always consider the other person to be better than yourself, so that nobody thinks of his own interests 1st but everybody thinks of other people's interests instead. "
-- A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians.

This verse is my reflections for today. As i read through this reading this morning, i realize something in my life on my actions and whatever i did for other people in my life is not in right way. I know that whatever i do is my service to others but sometime i like to be credited on whatever i do. I am only human being and like to be acknowledge on my works. But, today i learn something through this verse.

I need to serve with my heart sincerely and not asking for acknowledgement or praise from others. Doing all my task whether it is for church, for my family, for communities around me i must do it with my heart full of love and joy. Sincerely doing it for my service to my Lord and my God.

Thank you Lord for touch my heart again today with your words. Words that become my guidance in this world. Praise be to God. Amen.

Love,
Little Rose

Depends on You

Man is born as a seed; he can become a flower, he may not. It all depends on you, what you do with yourself; it all depends on you whether you grow or you don´t.

It is your choice-- and each moment the choice has to be faced; each moment you are on the crossroads.

--Osho

P.s: It all depends on ourself how we want our life to be. With God as our guidance because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life... He will lead us in this life journey. God bless and Blessed All Saints Day today!!
